Hey all,

I have an existing 6 year old  rig with a i7 2600k overclocked to 4.8 with 32 gb of RAM and a gtx 780.

I am looking to upgrade my system and have around 1000$ canuck pesos to spend (give or take a couple hundred).

Does it make more sense to keep the gtx780 and upgrade the system to an 8700k with 16gb ddr4  with a new board and M.2 ssd

or

just slam an 1080 TI into the existing system.

I currently run 4 monitors. ( 2 x 1920x1200 10 bit displays that run off a quadro and 1 x 24HD Citinq and 1x1440p 144hx display to game.)

I spend most of my day in photoshop and After effects and game in the evening (basically just overwatch right now).

The system is more stable workstation first, then gaming.

The performance is ok right now, can be a little slow with too many things open so more cores would help me as I usually have atleast 3 Adobe programs and 3+chrome tabs open at a time.

But I would also like to squeeze more joy out of my gaming setup.

Would a ryzen system be worth it?

Any info or opinions would help. I'd love to get at least 2-3 years more out of her

Thanks in advance!

overwatch isn't super demanding no? I'd imagine a 780 would be ok for it in which case an 8700k (or if you're willing to, you might want to wait for 9th gen which might have 8 core i7s) would make the most sense.

Thanks for the reply!

It's not super demanding, no. I get about 150 fps steady on low @1440p currently. I just feel ghetto playing on low :( my 780 used to be so good! lol

When are the 9th gens due?

I think probably at earliest around August ish, at latest probably around CES time. If it means anything currently stuff is pointing to Nvidia also launching their next gen GPUs around end of August so that might also be something you want to look out for unless performance is really bugging you rn.
