I have a 1tb toshiba external harddrive, it was working fine for the past 1 month but couple days ago my external harddrive gets an error and it is causing lag on my system everytime i open explorer with the drive plugged in. Any help would be amazing. The external harddrive marked "f"

unfortunately i get this from my friends and looks like the warranty is expired.

so basically i just need to format the hdd and recover the hdd right? 
any recommendation software for recovering the hdd, i tried easeus and recuva but i'm not satisfied

How much do you care about the data.

 

Do not format the drive if you care about the data. 

 

If you care about the data a lot, send it to a data recovery service, if you don't make a image with ddrescue, then use a program like photorec to get some files from it. Warning, doing diy will get you less files.

 

Let this be a learning experience to make backups next time.

we dont have that kind of service in our country, so i guess the issue is from the quality of the hdd itself?

all hdds will fail, its just a matter of when.

 

Your probably have a service like that, there are many small shops, or you can ship it somewhere.

It might not be the drive itself. It might be the controller on the external enclosure. I've seen this occur several times. If you can, remove the drive from the enclosure and plug it in internally, it might still be good. Or at least good enough to pull data from
