USB Type C cable specs?

Go to solution Solved by it_dont_work,

It'll depend on how many pairs are in the cable, I bought a couple which where 'high speed usb' for charging cables to throw in the car, they all ended up being normal usb2.0 cables. Yay for cheap ebay crap not.

certified 'high speed' is usually usb2.0

certified' superspeed' is usually usb3.0

after that I don't know, never had anything faster than 3.0

EDIT: here's a pic from kingston

I bought a ToughTested heavy duty coiled USB a to USB type c from Microcenter.

The package doesn't say what usb interface it uses, nor does the actual product website. Is there a way for me to find out which USB interface it uses?

whatever the port supports

if a port supports the 1.1 spec it'll only transfer at 1.1 speed, the cable is just a conductor between point A and point B

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

So if I have a port that does Thunderbolt 3, would it be able to support that? Or 10 GBps USB 3?

I don't think that it will support Thunderbolt 3, otherwise it will have that advertising plastered all over it. I think it may be a USB 2.0 USB-C cable, maybe supporting USB 3.0 at best. For example: Apple sells a USB-C cable that also comes with their MacBook Pros, it is designed for charging and because of this it does not have Thunderbolt support or even USB 3.0 support, they sacrificed data speed for charging capacity. It also doesn't seem like this cable supports USB-PD even, as it says maximum power is 15W which I believe is way lower than what USB-PD does.

I may be wrong about this though, USB-C, USB-PD and Thunderbolt is extremely confusing and the standards don't seem very well implemented or very clear to understand.

PC:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X | AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE | 32 GB RAM | Arch Linux

Laptop:

MacBook Pro 13" (2019) | Intel Core i5 8279U | 8 GB RAM | macOS

Server:

Intel Core i7 6700K | 16 GB RAM | 2 TB HDD | Debian Linux

High speed means at least 2.0. That's the best I'd hope for.

USB-A 1.1-2.0 has 4 contacts/wires. 3.0 and 3.1G2 has 9.

i'm sorry but if it's just an empty box, it's not going to support any data transfer xD
