HP 15-dc0051nr or Acer Helios 300 i7-8750h?

So I am in a dilemma, because these two laptops seem to have sprung up from seemingly nowhere and both are very competitive for their price!

both have the same CPU and the GPU but here's the thing:

HP laptop sold here is for $999 right now. (1 TB HDD + SSD)

This here is the Acer Helios 300 8th gen refresh: Amazon Link

The difference is that acer has overclock-able GPU and a 144 Hz display all for $1199 (idk how they managed that) (SSD only)

Which one should i go for? what issues other than heating should i look for?

I can definitely buy the HP and an aftermarket screen 120 Hz model no.: N156HHE-GA1. This display (unlike other 120Hz displays) works with brightness controls when swapped out and it also has 94% color accuracy. (link).

what issues other than heating should i look for?

I know for one fact that the HP always runs on the 1060 and it does not switch back to the intel GPU when there is no workload (like 99% of other laptops do)

Is it meant to be a Gaming Laptop, or for School and Side gaming?

Do you Need the 144Hz Display?

Are you planing on Overclocking the GPU anyways?

Does the Laptop Need to be Portable?

It's meant for school and gaming, I would love to have a 144 Hz display, but 120 isn't bad either. I wouldn't overclock it because I don't see why I would... Portability is secondary though

Alrighty.

So.

Starting off, School laptop.

The HP Oman, I was looking at that laptop also, Was told it has OKish at best Cooling.

PLUS it weighs Almost 9 pounds.. That is like carying 2 bricks around..

Acer Predator Helios 300, That thing in Canada costs nearly $2,600, And I wish I was lying.

So I dont know much about it.

Check some reviews on Youtube or just on the Internet.

It looks pretty sold to me!

Also Check out the Dell G5/G7

You could Fully spec one out. with a i7 8th gen and a 1060Max Q for cheaper then the Helios, I think, I cant do it bc Im in Canada, it Dell auto places me to .ca

Lemme know if you have more questions I can help with

All Pascal GPUs are overclockable

Omen DC is better. Helios 300 has mediocre cooling
