Hey guys, I'm looking for recomendations on the purcahse of an SSD for my already existing PC that has a Samsung SM951 128GB M.2 PCI-e and a Seagate 2TB 7200RPM HDD

My OS is installed on the M.2, and I'm not looking to replace the HDD as it has a lot of data on it that I don't really want to transfer, so I am looking for a 3rd drive that will be an SSD. The use of this drive will strictly be to install games, mainly World of Warcraft as the required file size will exceed what my M.2 currently has when the next expansion is released. It doesn't need to be too big I was thinking around 500gb to try and keep the price not too high, but I also heard bigger storage means faster speeds. I also saw that in my motherboard manual (Asus Z170 Pro Gaming) it states "When the M.2 Socket 3 is operating in SATA mode, SATA port 1 will be disabled". I'm pretty new to this so I'm not quite sure what that means, if someone could help me out with what port to connect it to?

Thanks in advance guys.

The sata port is the hdd/ssd port for 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch drives. There is usually 4/6 of these on a motherboard, so if you dont have 4 hdd's you are fine.

If you boot up after installing the m.2 and your hdd is not showing up, just connect the hdd to a different sata port.

So if the sata 1 port will be disabled when connecting m.2, look for a sata port labeled "sata 1" (look at the included picture) and dont connect your hdd there.

Sata port looks like this:

I would suggest a SATA SSD, like a Samsung 850 EVO or Crucial MX500. The reason being is that for almost all single-user use cases, loading performance doesn't appreciably approve with storage performance. i.e., most cases between a SATA and NVMe SSD, load times will be cut down by like a second.

Also while yes, larger capacities do perform better, it's not really something that's appreciable these days.
