Hi everyone, I just recently got into PC building and have decided that I want to build my own PC. I am quite new to PC part picking but I have put this list together. I am going for a Black and White vibe with this build. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips as to anyway I could improve my build or any cheaper substitutes of the parts listed. Anyways, thanks!

Parts:

  • CPU:
    • Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7 Ghz 6-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler:
    • Corsair - H150i PRO 47.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard:
    • ASUS - ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
  •  Memory:
    • Corsair- Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200
  • Storage:
    • ADATA - Ultimate SU800 128GB 2.5" SSD
    •  Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200 RPM HDD
  • GPU:
    • EVGA - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card
  • Case:
    • Corsair - Crystal 570X RGB White ATX Mid Tower Case
  • PSU:
    • EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Monitor:
    • Asus - MG278Q 27.0" 2560 x 1440 144Hz Monitor

Total Cost: $2343.09

Side note: I am planning on replacing the stock fans that come with the AIO with Corsair LL120 RGB LED

My budget for build, excluding the monitor, is $1800-1900. I'm planning on using it mostly for gaming and maybe streaming down the line.

To make use of that CPU, ur GPU is going to cost more then what you have listed.

Even the RAM..

So like DeathShot said, Need to know your Budget,

Not really going to be "cheap"

So more RAM and a better GPU? Or should I just downgrade my CPU?

i would get a lower wattage psu like a 550 or even 650w unless the 750 is on sale.  also you do know that the fans that come with the h150 pro are ml pro rgb fans right?  they are excellent fans and i personally would not change them

Ok, lower wattage PSU, but I'm pretty sure the fans that come with the H150i are non-RGB. I just wanted a uniform look with the RGB fans that come in the case.

There's a 3000MHz Trident Z RGB kit for $175. Or since it's an Intel build, there's the 2666MHZ version of the RGB Pro kit for the same price.

Consider the Z370F. It's the same thing without WiFi, and I think maybe slightly less RGB.

A bigger SSD? There's good 250GB SSDs for $70 and 500GB ones for $100.

EVGA branded PSUs are not very quiet. With a 1080, you're looking at ~250-300W power draw, so a good 450W PSU is absolutely plenty. With a 1080 Ti, a good 550W is plenty. The Formula Gold is well priced and quiet, though not modular. The Focus Gold is similarly priced and semi modular. If you want a fully modular one, the Focus Plus Gold is the cheapest really good one.

The MG279Q is IPS and 144Hz, only $50 more than the one you've chosen. There's also a $430 144Hz IPS monitor for $430.

For just gaming, consider the 8400, a lesser motherboard and cooler, and get the 1080 Ti.

:)

I took your advice with the RAM, SSD, PSU, and monitor. I think I'll stick with the ASUS Z370-E though as I need the WiFi because there are no ethernet connections in my dorm room lol. Thank you for the advice!

If you can't run an ethernet cable, is powerline an option?

The MX500 is a newer, better performing SSD than the SU800. Should have mentioned models for that.

Yeah, there isn't any sort of wired connection in our rooms which sucks. Do you know of any motherboards with a similar color scheme and WiFi capability for cheaper? And I've upgraded my SSD, thank you.

Doesn't look like there are any. No problem.
