Hi,

I wanted to hear your honest opinion on a OS that I discovered lately on some Russian site because I would like to switch to this OS on all my Notebooks since I want to give them away to my Parents.

My opinion so far is that it works very smoothly on my Lenovo ThinkPad T430 but if it goes to battery life, then I'm disappointed. That's because I was getting on 8 hours battery life on Debian and here I'm getting only 3 hours while doing normal web browsing and Programming with Arduino IDE. I think this might be a Kernel issue but the Ui of this OS is very beautiful and is even optimized for tablets

I've read that it's spyware. LUbuntu / Ubuntu is always a good choice. Deepin is not something I would go for. Here's an interesting link I found about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/58zyqi/deepin_os_gorgeous_de_but_0_security/

been using it for a while now. it is a damn pretty looking distro. i will be uninstalling it for another distro like manjero however. i just find it too restrictive like windows. settings is quite minimalistic for user friendliness. all the programming softwares you need can easily be installed from their repo like android studio, eclipse, and pycharm so programming should be an issue. Compare to other distros i say deepin babysit you the most. everything seems to be already set up out of the box so user doesnt have to tweak anything. the downside is that it is difficult to change the system. you cant even install your choice of nvidia driver for instance, instead you will be using whatever driver the distro ships with the driver manager.

i hop distros every once three months btw. i am still seeking the perfect distro and figure out the right desktop environment

It's easy

Begginer - manjaro + xfce

Advanced - arch + xfce

Advanced on a laptop - arch + i3-gaps (much more productive and fast)

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

I heard about this before and I let a friend of mine patch the kernel in the image itself but I'm thinking about switching to stock Debian if it gonna be possible.

Never heard of that before in my life. I've only used Ubuntu, and Zorin OS for programming and they work decently. Zorin OS looks similar to that one.

Ubuntu is actually also very good for this applications and the community is huge but I don't really like the fact that this system uses a lot of resources in the background. Only OS which I used for real programming in C++ and Python was Kali Linux and stock Debian.

arch + i3-gaps is very good choice for Notebooks, doesn't use almost any resources during idle and it offers very good battery life. The problem now is that I'm such a "noob" if it comes to Arch Linux that it would take me very long time to get right with the commands since I grew up with Debian based distributions : P

heck no, i aint follwing a 1-2 hour video guide for a distro installation.

And why would i want something so feature lacking and so simple as a windows manager when my computer has more than enough horsepower to run a more feature rich and elegant full fledge desktop?

Running arch with i3-gaps is like buying a gtx 1080 ti just to play candy crush or get an 8 gig android phone just to install memory wiping apps that wipes ram so the device performs like a budget 1 gig phone. totally unnecessary and what a waste.

It's not feature lacking. It wants you to choose what features would you like to have :)

I said on notebooks, because it uses almost no power when idle. It's much more productive and fast starting programs with shortcuts and managing different desktops. Also it uses whole screen space. that's why i said on notebooks. Cause you are limited at screen size. Also you can manage differend windows sizes very fast. And like linus would have said, last but not least it uses almost no resources from your computer. like 200 MB RAM and that's it. It's full fledged desktop if you know how to use it. In reality it's much faster then desktops with XFCE,  GNOME or other DEs.

I disagree! Like i said it's full desktop experience if you get used to it and know how to use it.
