Are Coffee Lake processors compatible with 3000 MHz RAM speeds?

I'm new to PC building and I read somewhere that Coffee Lake processors are not compatible with RAM that has a speed of above 2666 MHz. Apparently Coffee Lake processors can't profit from RAM speeds of above 2666 MHz.

Is this really true or did I get false information?

you can actually use 3000MHz RAM on non 'k' processors as the motherboard/chipset is the one relagates the speed used.

So, you're saying that as long as I have a k-series processor and a compatible motherboard (for RAM speeds of 3000 MHz e.g. the z-series), I can use RAM with speeds of 3000 MHz?

Plus: While we are talking about about k-series processors. What are other benefits of using a k-series processor?

It's compatible. Without Z mobo, It's stuck at 2400 (for dual and quad cores) or 2666 (for hexa cores) at most. With Z mobo, the max is 4266 I believe? You can push higher if there's a clock gen chip on the board. But no matter the board, it will work. Just at a lower frequency

as long as you have a z-series motherboard, you can use the 3000MHz to its full potential (assuming the RAM has pass the manufacturers QVL)

Sorry, if I ask a dumb question, but I just want to make sure. So, you're saying that I can pair a non-k processor with a 3000 MHz RAM and use 3000 MHz as long as I have a Z-series motherboard?

but, what app do you use that requires just speedy RAM as in most appz you'd be overspending where you can concentrate more funds in 'lacking' areas.

I would use this PC for gaming (PUBG mainly) and I thought that 3000 Mhz is the standard for gaming in 2018 or should I just go with 2666 MHz?

ryzen seems to benefit more in RAM speed above 2933 due to its infinity fabric and communication between the core modules.

the sweet rigs seems to be i5-8600, 2666 RAM and 1070/1070ti for resolution play 1440/1080 144Hz.

what budget and with games to be played, monitor resolution and what peripherals needed/used.
