GPU bios flashing (980Ti)

arielfall

Hey guys and gals,

I've got a Zotac 980ti Amp! Extreme.

I can get 1,500 mhz on 1.23v using MSI Afterburner to oc.

I've been messing around with Maxwell BIOS Tweaker. I've set a max voltage of 1.28v but when I flash the BIOS onto the card I'm not getting 1.28v. I'm still seeing 1.23 to 1.212v depending on GPU Boost.

Does Zotac have some hardware limited voltage restriction I'm unaware of?

Thanks

It's possible that the voltage controller is set with a limit in which case you'd have to trick it by shorting the vsense thing

Unless you have it on a custom loop or are doing dry ice/Ln2 I probably wouldn't go any further.

I thought maybe so, I have seen people on youtube with apparent BIOS voltage mods. I just can't replicate it with the same tools. I think maybe I'm missing something?

I top out at a mere 67c at that voltage. With still 60% more fanspeed headroom. The card is getting older and I'm trying to run a few games at 4k. Just trying to squeeze what I can out of it.

TBH I'm not super knowledgeable about this stuff so I probably can't answer your questions.

Maybe you could try overclock.net? They might have some people more familiar with this stuff.

Past 1500mhz isn't going to get you too far, you're already near GTX 1080 levels

You'd be lucky to hit 1600mhz under water going by some of the scores here

https://hwbot.org/benchmark/3dmark_-_fire_strike/rankings?hardwareTypeId=videocard_2459&cores=1#start=0#interval=20

Half of the fun is just OCing it for me. If it blows up, well it blew up :D

Then you'll probably need to go on some overclocking forums and ask about volt modding the card.

  • 7 months later...

As I understand to unlock voltage you need to open the bios up in Kepler bios tweaker and save it. This unlocks two more voltage tables that you edit next in Maxwell bios tweaker. I tried to mod it this way unlocking those voltage tables and windows failed to load past spinning wheels for some reason. So I use Evga Precision XOC to unlock voltage past 1.212 v though could not get more than 1506 mhz. Want 1600mhz but the vcore it needs is ridiculous. Theyre under water though and my gpu temps are like in the 30s at 1506 and maybe 40 degrees if I raise voltage higher.
