Web Filters

Does anyone know of any good cheap (or free) web filtering system or something similar?  I need to block a few websites/software on the network. I am running a Windows system with a Windows 2012 Domain controller.

Can anyone advice please?  Thank you

OpenDNS for $20/year should have that option. I know you can register for free so try that first and see.

Ok thanks, ill look into it.  Looks like its called Cisco umbrella.... I  guess i dont need Cisco components?

You don't really need Cisco equipment to use Cisco Umbrella.

 

However, an easier and cheaper solution would be to redirect the specific domains you want to block using your internal DNS (which I assume you're running on your AD server).

It is not a solution that will scale, at all, but if you only want to block a handful of domains it should work fine. Just make an A record with the domain name, and then point it to something like 127.0.0.1, or something like that.

Please bear in mind that this type of block is very easy to circumvent, but so will all types of DNS based blocking.

Thanks for your replies I shall investigate on doing it on the AD.

Might need to find a way to block ports as some use software like discord on the wifi.
