I've wanted to build a PC for a very long time and I am finally able to do that. However, I only have $500 US. I've watched tons of videos and searched all over and this is the list that I compiled. I think my CPU and motherboard are decent, my only real problem came when I had to pick a GPU at which point I realized that GPUs are stupidly expensive.

I plan to use this PC for some low end gaming, maybe some League of Legends, Hearthstone, Overwatch, etc.

As this is my first build I have no clue whether or not I messed anything up, so I wanted to post it here where more experienced pc builders could take a look at it and maybe give me a hand. (My money ran out after the GPU I selected [not even sure if it's even a halfway decent GPU], so I had to lower my HD from a terabyte drive to a 500gb one.)

Any help that anyone can give me would be appreciated. (Currently the build is at $512 US, and that's about as much over as I can go)

I'm not worried about the OS or anything other than the computer itself, and I only plan to use one low quality monitor. (Not included in this budget)

Thanks in advance.

first, you'll want to make sure that the RAM you selected will even work with that cpu. AMD is a bit more finicky in terms of stability, and for a R3 1300x i would say RAM near the 3000mhz area is a safer bet, maybe 3200. To check and see if its compatible, find your motherboards website and check the QVL (qualified vendors list) to see if its tested to work at its rated speed.

I would advise going with the Ryzen 2400g. It has built in vega graphics, and should perform perfectly fine for the games you wanted to play. It will save you more money to put elsewhere and still get the job done. Also make sure you will have enough cooling in your case.

You will need to get the upgrade kit from AMD, so a CPU to use to upgrade the BIOS of that mobo. But everything else should be good to go, and should be OK for lower-end gaming until you can afford another GPU. Plus you'll need windows.

A better option for you is to buy a used Dell Optiplex off of ebay with a decent quad core CPU and 8GB of ram. And then throw in a SSD, HDD, and some used graphics card.

Get 1 8GB stick of ram instead of 2x4gb RAM. Easier to upgrade in the future to 16gb

Also a better PSU would be wise as well.

doing a single stick doesn't allow you to have dual channel memory. If he has 4 slots in a motherboard, 2x4gb sticks will work just find to be able to expand later to 16GB.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thank you all a ton for your input and suggestions. It's really helpful and I honestly didn't expect so many people that reply to me.

As someone who is new this, one thing that I find confusing is the RAM speed. What exactly does this impact? And what speed should I be looking for with the specs that I have currently in my original list? Also, does the Ryzen 2200 come with a stock cooler as well?

(I'm currently going over my original build and I may modify some of the parts to better fit my budget)

higher ram speeds helps to improve performance in games.

the 2200G comes with a wraith stealth cooler.

On top of that, will I need a WiFi adapter?
