Just thought of this. What if laptops were sold, just as a base? No keyboard, no mouse and no display. Just IO and all the drives inside. There would be a lot more cooling available to the laptop.

but it would have better cooling.

It would be like a portable laptop workstation, that can be hooked up to a monitor.

Probably sounds stupid but had a thought and thought I should've shared it.

(smh)

They already make small form factor PCs like the NUCs or Devil's Canyon Vega thing

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

no offense but yes it does sound stupid and is.. if it doesnt have a display its not a laptop, thats what sff PCs are for, laptops are made to be portable, not as a mini pc. if you want that use a sff pc or a mini pc

As stupid as the base idea sounds, the first thing that comes to mind though is a sort of modular form factor for laptops like that, kind of like the failed attempts at making modular phones. That would allow, I guess, a base to be sold that has the shape and make of a laptop base. Though practicality and price would suffer, as making it modular in of itself would be costly for a manufacturer. Too many models of laptops already exist, so modular wouldn't be able to compete against the notion of "there's a lot of models of laptops out there, there's bound to be one right for you." instead of building a modular one yourself. Concept is still cool though, I'd like to see something like that in the future, as the main problem it would solve is the crappy or non-existent ability to upgrade laptops.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the original idea sucks, but considering a larger scope of it, it would be pretty cool.
