New Build CPU Fan Error

Go to solution Solved by asand1,

These are your cable ends. The CPU plug needs to be attached to the mobo, and the fans stay attached where you have them, making sure you are yousing the socket with al 4 pins insatled for one of the fans.

Hi, so I recently just finished a new Build, but whenever I power her up it says CPU Fan Error! and then takes me to UEFI. I select the drive to boot and Windows 10 Pro works just fine. I went into my system to check what hardware was being recognized and it recognizes my Samsung 860 1 TB SSD, but not my WD 2 TB HDD. Both are listed under Drives, but only my SSD is listed under disk....not sure if that information was detailed enough, but please help!!

My Build:

intel i7-8700k

ASUS ROG Z370-F Gaming

ASUS ROG 1080ti OC

Corsair Vengence LPX 16 GB

NZXT Kraken X62 V2

Corsair High Performance Case Fans

NZXT H440

EVGA 550 Supernova G3

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

What do you have plugged into the CPU fan header?  that could be one reason for the CPU fan fail error.

Your system will throw this error if there is either no fan, the fan is jammed or a failed fan is plugged in to this header. Check to see if your main CPU cooler is plugged in to the CPU header. It's a safety feature to let you know that your CPU cooler may have died.

Hi paddy-stone,

so when I was installing the  X62 Kraken, the SATA cable is connected to the AIO Pump and a series of Fan connecters so I just connected the two fans to that....Should I have installed the fan cables to the CPU_FAN and CPU_OUT?

Hi LunaP0n3

Oh ok....so so when I was installing the  X62 Kraken, the SATA cable is connected to the AIO Pump and a series of Fan connectors (4) so I just connected the two fans to that....Should I have installed the fan cables to the CPU_FAN and CPU_OUT?

Yes, at least one fan (or set) needs to come from the CPU header. Then it increases and decreases the fan speeds as needed by the CPUs heat. Of course if you have a fan hub, then there is a fan IN header on that that you connect up to the CPU header on the motherboard too.

The kraken x62 pump has a plug you are supposed the put on the Mobo CPU header, what did you do with that?

Hi asand1

Are you talking about the Power cable set or the Mini-USB cable? From the Mini-USB cable, I attached it to a USB 2.0 Port. From the Power cable set, I attached the AIO_Pump connector to the MOBO, but the fan connector I simply connected it to the CPU fans....which now most people have said I should have attached to the CPU_Fan and CPU_Out

The one i circled in blue MUST be used by one of your fans, as that one reads your fan speed for CAM software control.
