My specs are as follows:

i5-4690k (with phanteks cooler)

8gb RAM

GTX 960 4GB

MSI Krait Motherboard

500W PSU

128GB SSD (have a storage drive but I'm keeping that)

NZXT S340 Case

Also I have a kailh mechanical keyboard that I'll probably sell with it too

The blade I'm trying to get goes for ~$750 used and I will also need an external hard drive so how close can I get to $800 without being unreasonable?

With only 8GB of ram i would say you'll get around 450 USD used...

The 4690k is still a tank and will chew through anything you throw at it even at 1080p.

I wouldn't go below $ 500. The only possible dealbraker would be the 8 GB of RAM.

is it worth it to upgrade it with another 8 before i sell?

(like renovating a kitchen before you sell a house to raise the value of the house enough to pay off the renovations)

I wouldn't do that. RAM prices are through the roof nowadays, so you won't come on top in this deal if you would buy another 8 GB.

Mind you, 8 GB RAM is not that bad though! However, today, it is generally accepted that 16 GB is the minimum requirement.

It's an evga 500B psu

2x4gb 1866mhz

And the SSD is Samsung SM841N (which I just looked up and is apparently an msata ssd but mine is in a 2.5" drive) that a friend gave me

Within a few years, it will be exactly the same thing. 16 GB will be too less and 32 GB will be the norm. :)
