Best open back headphone

So i have been looking for a open back headphone for the past couple of weeks to upgrade from my hyperx cloud 2 which i have been using for last 2 years. After going through a lot of guides and articles i have finally narrowed it down to mainly 3 choices
1. Sennheiser hd 599
2. Beyerdynamic dt 990
3. Audio Technica ad 700x
now i mainly use headphones for gaming, mainly fps like r6s,csgo,bf and i listen to a lot of rock music.Which one of them would be suitable for my purpose and if anything is better at that price range then feel free to suggest.
And my mother board is rog maximus vii hero which has supreme fx sound card so do i need an amp/dac to run them?i have absolutely no idea about it, any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Really intense and treble sharp. I would look at the 558, DT880, or K612 for that budget.

It’s odd to see how the Senheiser HD.... series can have very different acoustic properties from model to model. @Ronie96 , do you know what brand @Max_Settings’s referring to with the DT880 and K612? Strictly, fyi....

While more neutral bass of DT880 would hint to better details its sound stage isn't as good as in DT990 making it worser in games both for "competitiveness" in details/sound positioning and "fun factor"/bass immersion.

DT990 is very well balanced between those.

It's certainly at top level for details, but overal AKG K701/K702 are better with more neutral bass... unless really hating bass.

And while in US Audio-Technicas are cheap and AGKs expensive, in Europe it's other way.

Sound stage has nothing to do with footsteps or competitiveness. Please read my little guide here.

DT990 does exactly that positioning better than DT880.

My own experiencies fully agree with Mad Lust Envy's comparison of headphones.

For example AKG K702 is even better in positioning sounds despite of still bigger soundstage.

(+ neutral bass not getting in the way of details)

Yes, but the positioning is not because of the sound stage. 990 might be ok for gaming, but way too sharp for music IMO.

You should try Audio Technica ATH-AD2000, the sparkle on it was a tad too much for even me.....but, female vocals on it is to die for.

Oh yeah, I recall you saying that. I did regret selling it off, no female vocals on my other cans sound as good, there's a certain quality to female vocals that the ATH-AD2000 did so well, I'm at a loss as to how to describe it. Actually, it's been a while now, so my memory of its sound is fuzzy, but one thing I can say for sure was that it stood out when it comes to female vocals. In fact, the guy who'd gotten it from me said that he'd wanted the can because he listened to a lot of female pieces (jazz mainly) and he'd heard good things about the AD2000 when it came to female vocals.

Nah, I sorta kept things status quo for now, not gonna try anything new as I still have about 15 cans right now. Thinking of selling some of my lower end cans (like the DT990, DT770, ATH-R70X, etc)  and going for one more high end can. But that'll have to wait as I'm going on a two week trip to Thailand, and still toying with the idea of getting that Audio-GD NOS 11 R2R DAC.....

The Sennheiser hd660s?

I heard them at a meet. In my quick impression, didn't sound too different from hd650.

Very much my impressions. They are the successor the 650 and they are worthy. You’ll see my full impressions in my showdown and review tomorrow.

I don't see the point in them though. Like, hd650 is a lot cheaper, and no worse.

650 is slightly worse, but not for the price difference. But of course the 650s might not be around much longer.
