Hi everybody. Long story short, my GPU is super outadated and causes crashes, so someone on the forum adviced me to buy a GT 1030. I wanna know if this is a good choice and if it is compatible considering that I don't have a lot of money to throw into hardware and that I don't wanna bottleneck it.
My setup :

Intel core i2 quad 8400

GS 9500 GT

4g VDDR2

Foxconn N15235 (motherboard)

So. Is buying a 1030 GT a good deal and will it boost my performances a lot ?

Thanks already, Reddox

PS: Please excuse my terrible writting skills, I am french ;p

Honestly spending a bit more and getting a ryzen 2200g would be better then getting a 1030 for longevity sake BUT that would be close to $220 use because you need the motherboard and ram too, keep an eye out on your local used market like @hconverse02 said and look at things like 660 ti, 580, 760, 770 or 780. All will give you similar or better performance for equal or lesser cost, just keep in mind some of these cards will require up to a 600 psu

Not a 770.

It's very unlikely a card that old would have been used for mining if it's not amd as they weren't really efficient for mining

Well most of those graphics cards that I listed would requite a 400w or larger psu to power a whole system, if you have a bigger power supply that is free then by all means use that but if you would have to buy one to upgrade than buy a gtx 1030 or maybe see if you can get a used 1050 in your area used

The miners go for the high end GPUs like 1080, 1080Ti (or 1070 Ti).

For them, the price to mining-performance ratio is simply not worth it.

@Christophe Corazza @mr_bresI see. I saw this type of things on e-bay, is this what we are talking about ?

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/carte-graphique-nvidia-ZOTAC-gtx-670-2-gigas-ddr5/232789725519?hash=item363359514f:g:PzYAAOSwvDpbEOWB

Because acording to UseBenchmark, the 670 is priced at 413$ and not around 60$

New that's what they cost yes, ebay is usually more expensive then say Craigslist  (America) or gumtree  (Australia) if your country has a website like those try that.

That is indeed a GTX 670.

You could also try to look on secondemain.fr instead of eBay.

I don't think getting a 670 or 770 would be very good, because anything more powerful than a 750 is going to be bottlenecked. I'd still get a 1030 or 750Ti if you can find one for a good price.

@thegreengamers Do you think that a 230 psu is enough to power my system with the 1030 ?

Probably not. I'd get a 450watt power supply, like a Corsair CX450. That would suffice up until you get something like a 1070.

My conclusion:

A GTX 670 will most likely bottleneck, a 1030 won't.

If you can obtain a used 670 for less money than a used 1030, then you could go for it.

However, make sure that you have upgrade your PSU to account for the additional power draw.
