Best 1080 ?

The cheapest one with 2 or more fans is the best. They're all the same thing, except for the cooling. Nobody buys 1080s anymore though. A 1070 Ti can be overclocked to get the same performance for less money.

The blower style one is $30 more. Avoid those. One with a quality cooler is quite a bit more. I don't really get why people say "only $30" though. I'd like an extra $30. It can go to other upgrades.

Personally I recommend EVGA. I think Strix models are probably best, but they're also super expensive. Not enough to justify the cost.

Well a non Strix version is WAY less. You won't get a magical performance boost from the Strix version. It's up to you, but there's a reason nobody here would tell you to get a 1080. You're throwing money out just so you can have a higher number.

7% faster

What scientific research you done to come to this conclusion because ya know say its (random number)% faster is too abroad... sometimes there's no difference between the two, sometimes its 1 or 2 fps averages, sometimes it's higher to the 5~6fps... it is inconsistent at best.

Either ways if person feels paying more for a 1080 is justified just let them have it... 30$ from this specific case is not that gigantic of a saving either ways... so yeah if he wants the 1080 he can have it...

250 000 benchmarks results:

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1070-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080/3943vs3603

also, 6 or 7% stronger GPU does not translate to 6 or 7% more FPS...you should know that...so compairing FPS in games is useless in this case.

also i said ROUGHLY 7% faster...it's cool that you've left that out.

it's faster because it has more cuda cores and better memory system, so if you overclock both to the same frequency the 1080 will remain faster.

Its not only about raw power , look the heatsink and the fans , its about reliability, If i can choose about reliability for years to come or 20$ who the hell will cheap 20$ for minimum 3-4 years of usage if you got both on your hand this discusion will be over.

You do recall though that userbenchmark does not differentiates overclocked results from stock ones though... so there's that... don't get iffy though I end up still agreeing with your larger picture.

Check out the MSI Duke GTX 1080, https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137084&cm_re=duke-_-14-137-084-_-Product . I have one of these in my rig and I couldn't be happier. I have a modest OC of 150Mhz on the GPU and 500Mhz on the memory. With its cooling, it never gets above 70c with the fans running at about 60%. I've had it for just shy of a year without any issues. It's not the flashiest card if you are looking for that, but the 'Duke' logo does have RGB in it, so there's that, lol.

If you want a 1080, get a 1080; not a 1070ti. You will have much more headroom for overclocking with a 1080. I run most games in 1440p with maxed out settings at a smooth 60fps, some even in 4k, but I usually have to turn down to high settings with AA off. With the "who knows" about when nvidia is releasing their next lineup of cards, it's a safe bet for awhile to get a 1080.

Main Rig: cpu: Intel 6600k OC @ 4.5Ghz; gpu: Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 2080 (OC'd); mb: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3; ram: 16 GB (2x8GB) 3000 G.Skill Ripjaws V; psu: EVGA 650BQ; storage: 500GB Samsung 850 evo, 2TB WD Black; case: Cooler Master HAF 912; cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, Lots of fans, Air!; display: 4k Samsung 42" TV, Asus MX259H 1080p audio: Schiit Audio Magni Amp w/ Audio Technica M50x

......and you're the one who thinks the 1070ti is just a lower clocked version of the GTX1080 which is entirely not the case.

I didn't say it was a lower clocked one. I said that's basically how it performed. And I didn't even say that in this thread.

You've inserted yourself into this discussion randomly, and are acting incredibly rude and hostile for no reason.
