Nvidia FE cards are generally priced lower than the one from asus, msi, etc. If I am going to liquid cool and overclock them then is is really worth to pay the difference sometimes as much as 200+ $ . Those cards look cool but i can add aftermarket RGB anyways.

FE cards are as fine as any other card, if you plan on water cooling all the better as the majority of AIO and waterblocks are made with the reference design in mind.

Some of the other cards are fe with fancy coolers on them. Don't waste the money. Wont be worth it in the end, regardless of the card.

As long as the card uses a reference PCB you will have the most options. Custom PCBs are going to complicate things somewhat. 
There are non-founders cards that use a reference design though. 

 

However, to save you possible headache and > $ 200, I would suggest to go for the founders edition.
