I have noticed that i have a possible CPU bottleneck on my GPU which is causing in game frame lag and lower performance than what i should be getting with my gtx 1060 6gb. I am not sure if i should stick with Intel or go to a ryzen CPU. I was looking into getting an intel I7, but i do not know much about what would help the most with my problem. Look at my previous posts to see a list of the problems i have had. i have tried all of the suggested fixes, and now i have come to the conclusion that it is my CPU bottle-necking my gpu.

-MSI Z97 Gaming 3

-Intel I5 4460k

-Geforce GTX 1060 6GB

-Cooler Master 650W (80+)

-1x 250GB SSD, 2x 1TB HDD

-4x 4GB G.skill Ripjaws (DDR3)

-Fan cooled (no overheating)

-Windows 10

Depending on how it is being loaded then it depends. If you're only at a core deficiency like if you're trying to run things in the background or playing a game that takes advantage of more than 4 threads I can wholeheartedly recommend ryzen  especially if you can get a deal on either generation. If you're bound by cpu ipc or clockspeed and would like some more cores, you can't go wrong with the 8600k but it is at least $250 plus a z370 mobo. Just some food for thought. Could you mention some of the games that you're cpu limited in?

I do not think that you really need to upgrade unless you have money you need to spend. Just try a little oc on your cpu and you should be okayish. Maybe invest in better cooling solution(if u have something not really good) for now and go for high oc? Something that you will be able to reuse if the cpu performance is not enough and you would need to go for something from 8th gen(tend to get quite hot).

I can appreciate where you're coming from and I totally agree with the overclocking thing but on my 4690k, even when I overclocked to 4.6Ghz, I was still being cpu bound in games like GTA V with a gtx 770. Idk what it was about haswell but it just seemed to like to do that for some reason... I've had better luck with higher core counts but idk if it's only due to core counts. :o
