Microphone on HyperX Cloud Alpha's not working

Just got the Cloud Alpha's today and tried getting them working but finding no success. The only sound coming from them is some static noise, when i unplug and plug the mic back in it will also make a noise. Any suggestions on whats wrong? I fear that the mic arrived broken and i'll have to wait even longer. Also, the headset is being plugged directly into the rear jacks on my Gigabyte Z170MX-Gaming 5 mobo and i am using the splitter
