What's storage spaces?

I could be wrong but I believe Electronics Wizardry is referring to this.

In a nutshell it's a software storage solution that can create mirrors or stripe data across multiple disks. Kind of like RAID but how it achieves this is a little different from traditional RAID.

So I want to create a RAID array with two drives to store my data safely. I wanted to know how Windows would react to a drive failure. Would the RAID 1 array just appear as a single drive? Or would my data be lost in the void, negating the effort of putting a RAID array into effect? I'm going to use software RAID 1 through Disk Partition configurer.

Raid won't make your data safe, you want backups for that. Raid can't help you if you delete a file, the file system gets corrupted, a psu kills a system or there is malware.

Don't use disk management raid, its bad, use storage spaces instead, its much better. If one drive failes it works fine and can be repalced later.

yep thats it,

but in your case you probably want backups not raid.

I want something that copies that data to two drives as I'm writing it to one location, negating the need for a daily backup or manual file copies.

That doesn't remove the need for a backup. Your much better off using a backup program as they are much better at protecting your data than any raid array.
