I'm looking for a cheap motherboard for my new build. I won't do SLI/CrossFire or high overclocks. Are the cheaper motherboards louder than the more expensive ones, because I'm going for a quite build this time. I haven't made my mind up regarding a case with or without window, but the color of the board will most likely not matter. The board I'm considering right now is an ASUS p8Z77-V LX2. Is that good enough for a gaming build or am I missing out on any important features?

Depending on what CPU you are planning to get, you could go with an older motherboard(P67) and get a better quality one.

I bought a MSI P67 GD55 for $110 with 8GB RAM Free and it is actually a pretty good motherboard. I can get pretty high overclocks out of it.

CPU: AMD 3950x Mobo: MSI B550 RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: Asus 3080 Strix PSU: Superflower Leadex 3 720w Case: BeQuiet 500DX

Storage: 2TB SSD + 4TB HDD Audio: SMSL 793ii -> HiFiman HE-400 + Mission MS-50 Speakers

First you need to pick a CPU, like do you want AMD or Intel?

then what form factor do you want?

after that then you can look into what is out there and do you want sata 3, usb 3, pci-e 3.

eventually you will narrow down to what you can get, and set a budget and pick the best one you can afford.

just saying a cheap m/board could be hundreds of different ones.

got to love Asus components

I'm going with an i5-3570k. Featurewise I don't need anything fancy. I'm going to use 1 HDD and 1 SSD, 2 front USB3.0, some overclocking and a single GPU.

Would the ASUS P8Z77-V LX (2) do a good job for me?

Z77-D3H. It's very low priced, and a very solid board.
Yes, I do have personal experience with this problem, but for a mid range 4.3-4ghz without much work, it does fine. Don't try to go above 4.6ghz on it though, no matter how much volts you put in it, it never will be stable.

I just barely built a system that used a 3570k and an ASUS P8Z77-V LE PLUS. Personally I am partial to ASUS motherboards. I have used Gigabyte boards in the past and just recently used an MSI Z77A-GD55. I was so unimpressed by that MSI board that I promptly returned it and bought the P8Z77-V LE PLUS.

I think the P8Z77V-LX2 would be a good choice. Although it only offers a 4+1 phase design chances are good that it will take your 3570k to its limit.

I would say the

[h=1]P8Z77-V PRO[/h]

is a better and more futureproof board, but if you want a budget board the P8Z77-V LX would be ok, all depends if you want to futureproof your system as changing a m/board can be a big deal and make you have to do a full re-install, everything else is easy to change, so choose wisely..
