asus rx580 top edition or 1070 fe (2560x1080 75hz)

Berend_020

hello guys,

I'm doubting which gpu I have to get. I have a 75hz 2560x1080 monitor which supports freesync. maybe I want to expand later to a 2560x1440, 144hz monitor

I want to get an asus rx 580 top edition or a 1070 founders edition (maybe ti). I'm only afraid that if I get the nvidia I get much screen tearing.

I want to play games like The witcher, Gta, Far cry 5, Assassin creed origin and rainbow six siege. And a Gsync monitor is to expensive.

thank you in advance

RX 580 it is, the FE model of the GTX 1070 will thermal downclock anyways.

Yours faithfully

I would grab the 1070 yes it will screen tare, but look at it this way, it will be a while before you need a new GPU.

The GYX 1070 is better normally, but the Founders Edition will thermally limit the card, so you won't even get the full performance, however either will handle the display you have now quite well, if you want a 1440p G sync 144hz panel later, get the GTX 1070, although I would never recommend the FE cooler in most cases, plus the memory VRMs seem to randomly fail on cards from the GTX 780 on wards for reference Nvidia cards. (Haven't seen any 1000 series fail yet though)

Yours faithfully

this is my first gaming pc, so I don't know  much from it, but is screen tearing very noticeable.

and if I get a normal gpu, what would you recommend rx 580 or a 1070 (I think I never buy a g sync monitor, or it must be significantly discounted somewhere)

An FE GTX 1070 might run a 1440p 144Hz monitor, depends on your game, but if it's a demanding game it won't cut it at all, in which case while g sync costs a lot more, you will get a much better experience because tearing is horrible and v sync is not that nice either. What case do you have?

Ok, not the best for airflow, but not the worse. I'd say the GTX 1070 wouldn't be awful in this case, since it's already a bit air starved.

Founders editions will not maintain a temperature under 60°C, so it would, meaning you're wasting money on performance. When water cooled the GPUs really stretch their legs, not that I could advise like €100 at least for maybe 200MHz extra at the high end.

What? Pascal starts thermal throttling at 84C, so even 60 would be fine .Still, a stock 1070 will beat even an OC'd 580.

Okay, my S340 kept my 6700k (1.42v 4.7GHz) with a Noctua NH-U12P in the 60-70C range with SLI Asus GTX 680 4GB DCII cards. The top card would peak at a whole 80C. Currently the case has an X62 cooling my 6700k with vardars peaking at a whole 800rpm pulling air into the case. My current gpu (1070 strix) stays in the mid 60s and peaks at around 72C.

Airflow will not be an issue, especially if he gets a Founders Edition 1070 cause of the blower design not introducing heat into the case and just pulling air from inside.

Also the 1070 outperforms a RX 580 while consuming much less power. It will not struggle with 2560x1080 75Hz but it might not be able to fully utilize the 144Hz of a 2560x1440 panel. My 1070 struggles in games to stay 75FPS or higher average with my 3440x1440 75Hz panel but that is a much bigger jump from 2560x1080.

1070, ALWAYS 1070. It'll consume less power, and perform significantly better. The 580 is more in line with the 1060. Founders edition or not, it'll still be a good 25% better than a 580. Besides, you can always custom water cool it. It'll get hot, but it won't lose much in clock speed vs after market cards due to GPU boost.

Nvidia also has ridiculously better opengl drivers. You could emulate WiiU games no problem, but a 580 will hardly get 20fps due to AMDs horrendous opengl drivers.

Ryzen 7 2700x, MSI Gaming X RX 480 8gb, Asus ROG X470 Gaming, 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000, 120gb Kingston SSD (Boot) + 1TB Seagate Barracuda.
