Restart issues

I recently installed a gtx 1080 in my pc. I switched over from amd’s rx 480 and now my computer restarts itself randomly during some games. I deleted the nvidia driver and reinstalled and it seemed to help, but it still restarts if I play modded Skyrim and if I switch my resolution from 4K to anything below it everything turns green.

my build:

ryzen 7 1700 (with stock cooler)

gtx 1080 8gb (factory overclocked at 1848)

1 8gb stick of Corsair vengeance LP ram

asus prime b350 plus motherboard

1tb western digital HDD

And a slightly older 600w psu. Don’t remember the brand.

Anyone know what might be happening or anyone having the same kind of issues after installing a 1080?

I had these issues for months until I dealt with Gigabyte and EVGA over the phone a few times.  PSU overheating due to power draw and ECO mode not bringing fans online fast enough.

Grab a new PSU to test, I would look at that first and foremost.

Edit:  Just reread the "green" part.  Everything on the screen turns green?  Can you get another GTX 1080 to test?

Okay, I’ll try that. I’ve been wanting to grab a 750w one anyway.

do you get a blue screen or anything?

No, no blue screen. The computer just restarts itself. No issues when I boot up either.

it just turns off? that might be a PSU issue. as was suggested before, try a different PSU.

Not everything turns green. Just the game window if I run a lower resolution at full screen. If I play in windowed mode it’s normal.

You don't need a 750W. A decent 550W is more than plenty. I'd recommend the Corsair RMx series or Seasonic Focus Plus Gold.

The 'turning green' issue may be unrelated to you losing power (almost sure that's the PSU), but likely has to do with when you hooked up the new card.  I would usually say having a green tint is a monitor or cable related thing. I would make sure you have the video cable securely connected or try a different cable.  If it's not making a solid connection it won't get all the color signals at all resolutions, etc.

90 percent of my random discoloration issues end up being that the VGA/DVI screws werent tightened all the way.

Just to sanity check, you did uninstall AMD drivers, right?

Yes. AMD drivers were uninstalled before I put in the new card.

Okay. That’s what I was starting to think. I think the hdmi I’m using is a little old so I’ll be picking up a new one. Thanks!

I’m going to be adding some more ram and maybe another 1080 to run in sli so I was just going to buy a higher wattage psu just to know I have more than I need.

Mainly the point is to prioritize the quality of the PSU over the wattage.  A good 550w psu will be more capable of handling two 1080s than a mediocre 750w.  If you're looking at SLI, I'd get something in at least tier 2.

I'd balance your components in quality and level before spending another $500 on a GPU for a little more performance.  Opinion:  SLI just isn't worth it unless you've got money to burn.

Most of the time I'd agree with you, but there is some justification if you SLI near the top-of-the-line.  Dual 1080s will trade blows with Titan V.  I wouldn't do it myself, but I can see why some might.

But yeah, focus on getting the system stable first.

1080 SLI isn't worth it. Just get a 1080TI if you want more than a single 1080 has to offer. SLI support for today's games is kinda crap.
