My current CPU is an AMD FX 6300 at a stable 4.2GHz. And currently, i'm searching for a new CPU because i know my current CPU will bottleneck any future GPUs if I plan on getting a new one, which is why I'm looking to get one. But anyways my plan was to get i7 7700k with a MOBO combo on eBay for around $300. I want to know if I should pull the trigger on that deal or if I should wait and find other options?

Look for 4770k/4790k deals first. The performance improvement from 4th gen i7 to 7th gen i7 isnt that big, but you dont have to buy new memory.

how long do you think the 4770k will last? because I plan on staying with staying with that CPU for a while once I buy it.

If you only play games, then it will last until DDR5 desktop platforms comes out, at least. That's about 3 years time

that seems like a good amount of years to hold on to it. So I guess I'll look for a 4770k then

The 4770k's are overpriced. They are simply not worth it in today's market.

Doesnt hurt to look around. Good deals in the used market pop up here and there.

If you couldnt find one at reasonable prices (CPU and mobo shouldnt cost more than $350, while below $300 is already a good deal), then locked versions or even Xeon E3 v3 with 80W or higher TDP are also viable choices. They are basically locked 4th gen i7s with different clock speeds and no integrated graphics. Motherboards used by consumer Haswell CPUs like the 4790 will also work with these Xeons, though they might need a newer BIOS revision.

True, but the original post says he has found a 7700k WITH a motherboard for only $300, which is a sweet deal.

A kit of high frequency 8GB DDR4 still cost $90+ new, while you'd want 16GB if possible. That sure does jack up the cost.
