I am planning to build to build new PC for the first time, till now I have invested in laptop as I am generally on the go. My Dell has given up on me and I have Mac-book for general use but need PC for simulation, modelling and lite MOBA and FPS gaming. Confused between 2600x and i5-8600/K, along with which motherboard to pick. I guess AMD bought competition with chaos. Can't decide need help!!! Ballpark for build would be around $800.

And yes I have watched all the tutorial and reviews but in my experience review sometimes vary than the actual real-time use. So input would be extremely valuable.

Thanks.

Where are you from? Do you have any parts already? Do you have a monitor/other peripherals?

$800 budget is limited for your use case, as far as I know, simulations and modeling are resource intensive.

i5-6600k (4.6) | Dark Rock 3 | MSI GAMING X 1060 6GB | 8GB DDR4 | 120GB SSD & 1TB HDD | Crystal 460x

 | Acer GN246HL 1080p 24" 144hz & Acer G246HL 1080p 24" 60hz |

PSU Tier List | PC Partpickers: US Canada Australia UK

as you might know, amd is more for the multicore perposes. I will not make the choise for you, but keep what I say in mind.

AMD: 3000+ mhz ram recommended with a B350 motherboard (you won't miss too much), know you'll need a cooler with it, they dont give you one with that chip

Intel: 2666+ mhz ram recommended with a z370, even if you don't want to go to the k series for now, if you want to make a upgrade to a later 8/9 series chip you'll be happy with it. also K series don't have a cooler with it, keep that in mind

I am in IOWA, US. I have monitor and other peripherals. I am not doing rocket science simulations and modeling just normal data flow analysis of air crafts. I have office PC so that works but in my spare time I wanna have a machine that can do stuff so CPU I was down to 8600k and 2600x but confused after that.
