HP is pretty nasty about third party ink. The only way around it is to either use the actual HP branded ink, or to use the microchips from actual HP ink cartridges and put those on the other branded ink.

HP is notorious for doing this. You may have an old firmware update on yours, and you should be able to update it, as stated in the below article. If that's not the case, you may need to buy genuine ink, or if that doesn't fix it, an entirly new printer. Just don't buy HP this time :P

I hate them for doing this. However, there is a bright side. I bought a third party cartridge off of amazon. I tried it and it obviously did not work. However, next day when I bundled up the cartridge to return it, it had actually sprung a leak and would have probably ruined the entire printer. This is what keeps me from reprimanding them.

I also hate them for doing that.

I’ve got both a semi-pro HP colour laser printer and an HP ink printer. I was very happy with both of them until HP decided to lock out any third party ink cardridges.

Now I’m buying overpriced ink for my HP ink printer.

Although, since then, I have not yet needed to replace the toners of the laser printer yet. But I assume that any third party toners won’t work anymore either.

So I’m stuck with expensive machines that require expensive ink/toner :-(

I think even a refilled hp cartridge doesn't work as well
