Windows 10 key question

I downloaded windows 10 from their website but I need an activation key, I found a free key online but is there a chance I can get a virus from the activation key? I know it sounds stupid but I'm OCD about my computer not having viruses on it, so i just want to know if its possible to get a virus from it, thanks!

If the website you downloaded the key from said it was free, you might have a virus already. Windows 10 normally costs $120 USD for the full (non-oem) version.

You don't need a key to install windows 10, just hit the i don't have a key button while installing.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Hey, man If you can't afford a key just use the free version they give you until you can save up. That's what I'm doing right now. you're gonna lose some customization features but its legit windows with nothing sketchy to come with it lol

Is the "free" key a file you have to download?

 

Honestly just run windows 10 unactivated until you can afford to buy a key. All it does is whine at you and not let you access the personalize menu.

You can run Windows unactivated, you just lose the ability to personalize.

 

Downloading "free keys" won't get you anywhere good, you probably have some form of virus.
