I did not see that ACER was G-Sync! definitely will swap for the ACER for the cost saved, thanks!

8700K fit's nicely into that budget now hmm.

if you can find another £200 you can get a 1080ti, which is a big upgrade from the 1080, also, to throw another spanner - new cards from Nvidia in July/August

I have a GPU that is somewhat mid tier - high middle tier, overclocks well. But i want the best and that is Nvidia, superior power consumption, superior game support (OpenGL performance trashes AMD, tesselation also.)

I do not want to use my current monitor because truthfully it is too small, though it's a very fast panel (120hz and OC's to 130!) 1680x1050.

Coffee Lake is what we are going to be going with, i do not need HT since the i5's have 6 cores which is amazing!

I need a lot of external expansion slots, namely USB slots, i prefer good onboard audio instead of dropping in a sound card.

I'm not fussed for anything RGB, if anything i prefer the more understated look to flashing police sirens and vagazzle.

I reside in the UK so this will be cool to use to help me: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/

Thank you!

Gaming mostly, i do some game emulation too which in some PS2 games my X58 chip falls on it's butt a bit.

I want a powerful machine but with power consumption in mind hence going Nvidia :)

no need to change the monitor, theyre practically identical, especially at the expense of a 8700k > 8600k.

I'm not not sure on that EVGA board, i would need others to comment - remember you will have front headers for USB, my case has 2x USB 2 and 2x USB 3.0. If that's not enough you can always get a USB expansion card
