@AresKrieger It currently has over 65gbs of space left. I dont think its a space issue

Well then I don't know what is causing it, that update has a lot of issues and it could simply be it being confused.

In the past windows has gotten mad about wifi cards and a couple of older pcie/pci expansion cards, often issues like this require a fresh install of windows which requires formatting the drive, then you'd have to install the entire OS again, granted you could use a more recent update version as a starting point but its still a hassle

Hey, i've spent the last few hours trying to find a fix for this and have yet to find any help on this.

So yesterday I installed a new boot drive and fresh installed windows 10 with a USB (I Also formatted all my other drives).

Because this copy of windows 10 is one that I actually bought a couple years back I needed to install a few updates until I got to an update called "Feature update to windows 10, version 1803"

Then when it gets to 49% installed I get this popup with no error code of any kind.

And from my googling I wasnt able to find many articles about this specific issue.

Specs:

I5-6500

Asus Prime Z270-AR

GTX 960

16B Corsair vengeance LPX

Boot drive - Intel 600p 128GB

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

How much space is available on your SSD, that update is over 10GB

As for your hardware there are no issue I can see the only part i'm not familiar with is the 600p the rest seems fairly standard, though I think if windows 10 had an issue with M.2 I would have heard about it (and then laughed about MS's stupidity)

Usually, the issues are:

  • Missing driver, or driver needs updating. Make sure you install ALL your drivers, latest versions. In the BIOS/UEFI disable whatever hardware from the motherboard you don't use, like extra SATA Controllers. It has been reported that stuff like Mouse and Keyboard software be the cause. So uninstall those for now, and try again.
  • Anti-Virus that doesn't support upgrading process. Uninstall them (not just disable), restart, see if it works, if so, install it back after you upgraded.
  • Motherboard overclocking software, or any other motherboard utilities you might have installed. Remove them, and try again. Stuff like SpeedFan, LED controls, etc. are also guilty of this.
  • Unsupported peripheral. Remove anything on the back of your PC beside mouse and keyboard. Restart PC and try. Same for internal hardware beside Graphics Card)

Just finished a fresh install of windows and it has fully updated and the problem appears to be fixed.

I still don't know what the actual cause of this error was and I only found one actual article about it when I searched the exact error on twitter and microsoft support just suggested to run a troubleshooter which I ran and it did find some errors but when it did it's "Fixes" it still didn't solve the issue.

Thanks for the help

Which version is your Windows on? Check under Settings -> About This PC

If its on 1709 and fully up to date, awesome. If you receive any updates that show as 1803 or "Spring Update 2018" just avoid installing those for now, to avoid further complications with your PC. There are some major issues with the current build that Microsoft are working through. If you're already on 1803, hopefully everything is working ok :)
