I was looking for some headphones under $100 USD. The options that I managed to find are the following (I'm not sure if any of these can function reasonably without an amp or DAC) :

           Philips SHP9500S: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHP9500S-Precision-Over-ear-Headphones/dp/B00ENMK1DW

           Status Audio CB-1: https://www.amazon.com/Status-Audio-Closed-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B01BDX1IVW

           Grado SR80e: https://www.amazon.com/Grado-SR80e-Prestige-Series-Headphones/dp/B00L1LXOWS

           Edifier H840: https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-H840-Audiophile-Over-Headphones/dp/B013J7WUGC

           Sony MDR7506: https://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR7506-Professional-Diaphragm-Headphone/dp/B000AJIF4E

I'm also considering getting an attachable microphone. My current choices are:

           V-MODA BoomPro: https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Microphone-Gaming-Communication/dp/B00BJ17WKK

           Antlion Audio ModMic 5: https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-Modular-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B01MCYRKY3

What do you guys think about the options. If you can, mention other suggestions. I would like to hear your feedback.

I personally have the Edifier H850's, and I have no complaints given the price. If anything my only complaint is that my current desktop can't drive them all that well because the onboard audio is pretty weak.

I have the philips shp9500s and I have a separate mic with them which is really nice. They work well with gaming and music. EDIT: Make SURE to get them on newegg, they are usually $30 less https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826138190&cm_re=shp_9500-_-26-138-190-_-Product

The thing about the Philips SHP 9500 people seem to forget is that they do lack some punch in the bass. It doesn’t make listening to music all that thrilling to be honest, especially if you like electronic/rap/rock music. The Philips SHP 9500 sound rather epic with movie soundtracks though. I find myself enjoying my Bose companion 2 speakers a lot more. Well, it beats having sweaty sound earmuffs on my head anyway.

I find that the Status Audio CB-1 is easier to like. They have more bass than the Philips SHP 9500, and they pair really well with the V-moda boom pro as well. The other huge plus with the Status Audio CB-1 is the portability. You can use them everywhere, but you can only use the Philips at home because they let all the sound in and leak all the sound out.
