Hello! I am looking to upgrade my PC soon and I'm kinda torn on the cpu. Right now I have and intel core i7 3770 (non k) running at 3.4 or 3.7 with boost. I don't play many heavy games, mainly CSGO. I want to stream a bit aswell. With my current processor I can stream with an fps of about 100-150 fps, which feels very choppy and not so responsive since I have a 144hz monitor.

So my questions are:

1. What would be best between a 8700k and ryzen 2700x for having a good mix between good fps for me and good quality for my stream.

2. Is it even necessary with a 2700x, or would a ryzen 5 2600x be enough cores and threads?

3. How much of an upgrade would I feel with each option compared to my 4c/8t core i7 3770?

I might do a bit of overclocking but nothing i've fiddled with before so think of it at a reasonable core speed. I've seen this review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryzCY2eOdKM&t=275s, but according to that my i7 3770 almost beats it in performance both in streaming and without so it seems to be a bit off.

Thanks for the help :)

I also have a 3770, and from what I've seen the 8700k delivers better raw gaming performance, but will drop frames when streaming + gaming.

So pretty much it seems like the 8700k delivers better performance to the streamer, however, the 2700X delivers a better viewing experience to the viewer. I personally would recommend the 2700X over 2600X because the appeal of the 2700X is in the higher clock rather than the core count (in this case). Overall, the 2700X would be my choice as it loses slightly in gaming, but wins by a large margin in most everything else.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Microsoft Apple Valve Google Facebook Oculus HTC AMD Intel Nvidia

I'm using this data to judge this site's biases so people can post in a more objective way.

Since gaming is starting to become optimised for more cores, to game and stream you need to have even more cores. That's why I'd suggest you go for Ryzen. Not only that but Ryzen as a platform is cheaper than Intel. The MOBOs are cheaper and since the chips are soldered, the cooling should be better under intense load such as gaming and streaming.

if picking up a 2700x, pick up a X470 board as the power delivery and overal quality makes it much better than anything the 300 series boards can offer

I'd say that Ryzen handles gaming+streaming better. With the Ryzen(+) refresh in play and Ryzen 2 around the corner, you now have even more affordable options for if you need more horsepower later on...

dont mix Zen+ with Ryzen + as Zen+ is Ryzen 2. Zen is Ryzen 1. Zen 2 is Ryzen 3.

sorry i had to nit-pick
