Clueless about monitors, need help please.

Nightwish

Im after a new monitor which would be used mainly for gaming (world of Warcraft, wild lands and the division). I’m using a cheap hd one I brought years ago. I’ve been told a 4K is pointless with my set up (nvidia 1060 6gb, i7 4790 and 16gb ram). My budget is £300. I’m not sure what be best to get as a 1440p with 144hz is out of my price range. So should I go with a 1440p or a 1080p with 144hz?

so any advice would be very welcome.

save for 1440p 144hz or go for 2k like Dell U2518D, its amazing picture quality, in your price range and you dont really need those 144hz for those games...

Tough choice.  1440p has so much more detail than 1080p, but then again 1080p 144Hz is smoother if you lower the eyecandy enough to actually get those framerates.

Personally given these choices and with those games, I'm tempted to lean towards the 1440p resolution more than to the high refresh rate.  But that's more a matter of personal preference, not because one is decidedly better than the other.

If I were to go for the 1440p monitor, I'd try to overclock it a little though.  My previous monitors were 1080p 60Hz and I ran them at 75Hz for years without issues.   But that all depends on how far your monitor will go, some can't be overclocked at all.

I was looking at this in pc world yesterday. But it's definitely more than I would like to spend on a monitor.

One of these two maybe then. 1080p 144 hz g sync vs 1440p 144 hz freesync

If you play less intense games like WoW a fair bit the 1440p one may be worth going for since you might be able to push the high framerate.
