Hello all

so my internet connection is about 12Mbps on wifi i get 9-10Mbps with lots off spikes and generally many packet losses while gaming and many disconnections .

On ethernet i have 2Mbps but with no packetlosses in gaming and the gaming is smooth.

i had powerline in the network to transfer ethernet in my Room where the PC so i decided to buy a 20M Cat 6 ethernet cable to connect it directly from modem to pc.

the result was 3Mbps!!

My motherboard is GA-Z270-Gaming K3 from gigabyte

i connected my new ethernet cable to my laptop directly from modem and its getting 9.5Mbps so i guess the cable is fine

what might be wrong with my setup??

any program i can run to test my ethernet card on motherboard? maybe thats faulty

Hello! I recently had a similar problem with low internet speeds. In my case, My computer was to slow (CPU and Networking Chipset), and I had to upgrade my PC. But other causes may be software limiting your internet speeds (like Killer Networking), or just bad drivers.

You could contact your ISP and tell them about your problem. They can send someone with a benchmark laptop, but that depends on the ISP.

Says who?! That's a ridiculous statement.

Wireless - 9mbps

Ethernet-PC - 3mbps

Ethernet-Laptop - 9mpbs

Wireless works, no problem. Laptop works no problem. PC does not.

1.Same ethernet cable used, not an issue

2. 9mbps on both eth and wireless

How is it a ridiculous statement. Literally has nothing to do with the modem/router no the incoming line.

Of course it does. He is getting packet loss and different speeds on different devices, wifi or not. The first thing you'd do here is take a look at your router/modem settings, update the firmware, and have the supplier do a check on the line after explaining the issue to them.

As an admin, previous tech, support, and ISP, I think I can say or not where to look mate!

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

Dude im an DSL network engineer for an ISP, so if you were truly one you would of provided more of an input then "update your router"

The packet loss on DSL when pushing a connection like that is completely normal. 5% packet loss on fiber/eth is terrible but 15-20% on DSL is expected at saturation. Then stack wireless on top and your gonna have a bad time.

Again, has nothing to do with his line. His PC is unable to break 3mpbs and has ZERO packet loss....fuck focusing on packet loss. How about look at the PC and get the PC to get full speeds THEN worry about the packet loss.

I Agree, This more about common sense. The cable clearly works since its working on the laptop, therefore the issue would With the Pc and not with the line or the router.

There are a few things you can do to try to troubleshoot this.

One is updating the network drivers. You will find this in device manager(if that doesn't work, uninstall the ethernet network drivers, then reinstall them)

The other is to go onto the Network Connections(network adaptor settings) and right click the adaptor your using and select status. What you want to look at is the speed. Let me know what shows up there. If you can screenshot it would be great. similar to this photo.how-to-find-your-laptop-s-mac-address-in

The other thing you can do is to change the speed and duplex of your network card. Follow the instructions on this link and change it to 100 full duplex/mode.

Hope this helps.
