Looking at getting a heatsink for my build , getting a new fx 8320 and need a sufficient cooler for it for under 50$us , was debating between cooler master Gemini And cooler master hyper 212 plus. Those are the two I'm deciding between , know any advantages/disadvantages to each . Also willing to take other suggestions , only looking to overclock mildly Maybe a 4.0-4.4 at max . Would like anybody's input on this

What's the difference between plus and EVO ? Any advantage to one over the other ?

The Hyper 212 EVO is an updated revision to the Hyper 212 Plus. They're both designed to work the same, but the EVO basically has some more precise and cleaner workmanship, so it'll perform a tad bit better than the Plus. The EVO fan is also a bit better than the one on the Plus (not a huge margin, though.) The main difference you'd notice is the copper baseplate that contacts the CPU: The Plus model isn't a solid smooth plate to connect the heatpipes, there's some gaps, but thermal paste takes care of that concern (just makes re-mounting a bit harder since you'd have to clean out the gaps), EVO is a smooth baseplate :)

Oh, and some people thought the 212 Plus heatsink was ugly too because of the gaps. Its feelings were hurt, so we had to introduce the EVO while we consoled the Plus's feelings.

Plus and Evo are the same if you "tint" the plus. If they are the same price get the evo. If they are 5 bucks apart get the plus.

The evo isn't perfectly flat on the copper either. Solution on both? Take a dot of thermal paste and spread it on the copper with a coffee filter. Wipe off excess (all you want here is the paste in the cracks or lines between the pipes, you want it to be flat). This takes a whole 10 seconds and will make both work a little better, but makes the plus work MUCH better as it has bigger holes between the pipes.

Stick a bb sized dot in the middle of your cpu and the cooler does the rest while screwing it in.

Thermal paste that comes with it is fine. Add an extra pull PWM fan (it doesn't have to be expensive) if you want silence. It will drop a couple degrees off, but isn't really needed.

Thermal paste application and tinting the top shouldn't take you more then 30 seconds or you are trying too hard and probably reducing the performance of the cooler with more time consuming applications. :)

All 120mm single tower coolers are about the same if you tint the top. The evo/plus are among the cheapest with a decent fan that pushes a lot of air.
