My mom has an old pavilion dv5 that she wants repaired. I haven't worked with HP laptops before so I'm wondering if anyone can point me to a repair guide for it and if possible a screen replacement. I've looked online for replacement screens for this specific model but i can't find anything. Any and all help is appreciated.

Model: HP Pavillion DV5-21320X

EDIT: If possible does anyone have tips on how to clean up a laptop? It's fairly old and I'd like to make it look nicer for her

Taking it to a repair shop nearby isnt an option for us. They gave us an estimate for more than the laptop was worth. And we're trying to repair it because it's sentimental for her so I'm just looking for a replacement screen and a general guide on how to do it.

Are you sure it's a broken screen? The DV series is notoriously unreliable and often have failed GPUs and motherboards.

In that case, Why not use a secondary monitor for now, Then get a chromebook or cheap notebook? The price or restoring it will cost much more.

Fairly certain its the screen, theres a white bar going down the middle but when we get it to the lock screen it still gives us an outline of the picture

It's more for sentiment than anything else. It was the last thing her dad got her before he died and i want to fix it for her. It works fine overall i just need to replace the screen

Hi there Wolfie. Try looking around on eBay, Aliexpress, DHgate and other chinese websites, and look for a replacement display.

If you are successful in finding a display, refer to iFixit's website and look for your model screen replacement guide, or other similar model replacement guides.

Best of luck.

hi.
