Hey, just want to know whether a 1060 6gb is worth buying used? I can see someone selling used, only 2 months old but they have been used for mining. How harsh is that on th GPU? Price wise it has dropped to the equivelant of the 1060 3gb version.

And a side note, can a brand new 550w bronze PSU power a system with a 1060 6gb and i5 8400?

Thanks :)

As harsh as it gets. I'm not aware of any other program that runs the card at 100% usage 24/7.

I wouldn't give money to miners on principal

But probably like $250 max which is basically the old retail price.

IF you already have a GPU of some kind just save your money for next generation GPUs that same $300 will get you GTX 1070 tier performance if they're at MSRP

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Just now, Canada EH said:

If they dont tell you, you wouldnt know.

If they're listing a bunch of GPUs for sale I think it can be inferred, but I'm going to assume most listings will have been mining GPUs. I'm waiting for next generation stuff regardless.

if they didnt have it mine in a furnace there's pretty much nothing to be worried about.

a miner probably cares more about his card's lifetime than you do, because card lifespan directly impacts their profits, mine speed (hashrate drops when cards die), and potential resale value.

and as before mentioned, miners like efficient so you can be pretty sure these cards havent been overclocked/overvolted, and they were most likely in a properly cooled setup. depending on the way you look at it, its actually the gamers that treat their cards worse ;)

Yea it should power no problem. My 1080ti and 7700k [5GHz 1.35V] uses approx 575W power.

don't think the rating should matter way too much. unless you're leaving your computer on 24/7 [eg miners]

Do you know anything about cars? One could argue that mining would be like a car with high mileage but all freeway miles, used a lot yes, but little start up and stops. Aka not much thermal cycling. While gaming would be city miles, less but constant cycling from cool to hot which is what wears the solder joints.

Truthfully no one knows which is harder on a card, mining or gaming.
