Doing a build for a friend. Specs are thus:

MBD: Asrock A320M AM4 AMD Promontory

RAM: Patriot Viper Elite 8GB DDR4 2400MHz

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5 GHz

PSU: EVGA 500w 80+ Bronze

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1060 Mini ITX OC

SSD: Samsung EVO 860 Pro 256GB

HDD: WD Black 2TB

Running stock speeds, stock cpu cooler, and one case fan.

The system will not output a display. What's more, it will turn on for approx. 45 seconds and then power off and turn back on again. Everything in the system gets power, GPU fan turns on and then off buts that's normal. Here are some troubleshooting steps that I have already tried.

- Disconnect and reconnect 8-pin CPU connector

- Re-seat graphics card

- Run system without GPU (there are no video outputs on the MBD so this was just to make sure that the machine would still have the same power-cycle issue, and it does)

- Re-seated RAM

- Tried without RAM

- Tried known working GPU

- Disconnected storage (first data, then power, then both)

- Disconnected and reconnected 24-pin connector

At this point I think its a bad power supply. If you have any inputs, please let me know, anything is appreciated.

IIRC the BIOS needs updating to support that CPU.

I assume you have a BIOS that supports that CPU.

What makes you think it's a bad PSU? Since it runs for 45 seconds it seems like the motherboard fails to initialize for some reason. That could also be a faulty CPU or motherboard right?

Since it's brand new I don't think it will do much, but maybe it's worth trying to clear the CMOS?

Does you mum know you're here?

Why? aren't the endless amount of videos in youtube showing how useless and shitty motherboards with this chipset enough? 10~15 dollars more you get a b350 that is infinitely better.

It could even be the issue here, these 320 ryzen boards comes DOA more often than not.

He could have an old bios actually. Can the OP confirm when the board was purchased and whether it had a sticker saying it supported Ryzen 2 processors?

Your motherboard needs a BIIOS update to support Raven Ridge APUs.

SITREP:

CMOS flash didn't do any good. And unless I wasn't clear I have no way of accessing the bios because I'm not getting anything on the monitor from the GPU. I assume this is because the system won't even post to the bios because of the unsupported CPU. A friend of mine is bringing a 1700 in and maybe then we can post and get an update. Will keep update, suggestions still welcome.
