Depends on how much you wish to afford over all, a Ryzen 3 1200 overclocked on just about any b350 can result in a very balanced gaming build with a GPU up to a GTX 1060, it is not a bad processor, you just have to keep in mind its limitations.

I would still try going for the Ryzen 5 1600 or similar deal on the Ryzen+ refresh, because this way you'll have greater life expectancy out of it, CPUs are important sure but to someone looking for games as main goal the GPU will always weight more, just get something that can keep up with your GPU and you'll be covered.

Ryzen 3 and 5 CPUS 1300, 1400, 1600 ect do NOT have a built in GPU meaning you will need a discrete GPU in order to get any video out from your computer.

If you plan to build a Ryzen system without a GPU now then you will need to go with one of the Ryzen APUs either the Ryzen 3 2200G ($99) and Ryzen 5 2400G ($169)

Which ryzen 3?

You mention not getting a GPU for a few months later.

If its not a "ryzen APU" you will need a graphics card as Ryzen "1" doesn't have integrated graphics
