Can you connect a USB 3 front panel connector to a USB 3.1 Motherboard?

Go to solution Solved by The Oddball,

What? Here, let me reclarify.
USB 3.0 was RENAMED to USB 3.1 gen 1.
It retains the same specs and headers. This header:

attachment.php?attachmentid=215538&d=142

USB 3.1 Gen 2 is a different header and spec. This header:

As long as the header is the same, it will work.

So, Im building an Office PC, snce it´s for an Office, nothing is particularly fancy. Because of that, the Case is a Cooler Master N200, and the CPU (Since it´s for the long run) is the Ryzen 5 2400G, the Motherboard I will be using is the ASRock AB350M Pro4.

Now, the question:

The Case has 2 USB 2.0s and 1 USB 3.0. and the cables to connect them come inside of the box. The Motherboard has USB 3.1, can I connect the included USB 3.0 connector to the USB 3.1 header?

usb 3.1 gen 1 or gen 2

usb 3.1 gen 2 was called 'usb 3.1' and usb 3.1 gen 1 was called 'usb 3.0' before.. they changed up the naming a while ago

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

it'll work

3.1 gen 1 (new name) = 3.0 (old name)

I would like to strangle the inventor of the USB 3.1 Gen1 standard with a usb 3.1 Gen1 cable, If I so may.

There is only 3.0 and 3.1
Any materials saying 3.1 Gen1 mean 3.0

Any materials saying 3.1 Gen2 mean 3.1

ffs

this is worse than the 4K and UHD bullshit!

Get in line. What's really infuriating is it was a committee (which should be committed) that approved the change.
