Hi,

So I'm in the process of trying to build my first pc after my laptop smoked up after only 2 years. It still works for internet surfing and stuff, but not for anything more work intensive.

I want to build a pc for working, gaming and occasional video editing like birthday or wedding videos. Nothing overly crazy. My budget is 3000 €. I do want to go for something high-end,

because I mainly used low to middle rate stuff and I believe in go big or go home. I want to go for a red and black look. And I also want this thing to last for a couple years. I know a computer

is outdated the moment you build it, but i would like to be able to game with it for the forseeable future.

So this is my current build idea:

Cpu: Intel i7-8700k

Motherboard: Asus Rog Maximus X Hero (with Wi-fi)

Gpu: MSI Geforce Gtx 1080 ti 11gb

Ram: G.Skill Trident z RGB 16gb ddr4

Power Supply: Corsair Rmx 1000W 80+

Case: Corsair crystal 570x rgb

Cpu cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i V2 240mm

SSD: Samsung 960 evo 1tb

Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut as thermal paste.

So I would appreciate your opinion and help. Have I made any mistakes? Do I bottleneck somewhere? Do I need a more powerful powersupply? Should I wait for the next generation of gpus?

Thanks

Kalcifer

What's the model of graphics card?

I would buy a 360mm rad liquid cooler instead. 7700k is hot and needs 240mm liquid cooler, 8700k is even hotter.

Even 750W PSU is enough. No need for 1000w units with only 1 graphics card.

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

I want to use the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X 11gb by Msi. Do I really need a 360mm rad? If so could I just use the next bigger one from corsair? So 750W Psu is enough and 1000W is too much, but if I wanted to be safe I could use a 800 or 850 Watt one? Thanks for the fast answer.

Well I wrote occasional video editing on a very low skill level. So it shouldn't be too demanding. I think? What do I need to look out for, when I buy Ram. I remember something about frequencys, that had to match, but I cant seem to actually recall which ones.

I love it. You might wanna a secondary hard drive just for file storage and a 1000W PSU is WAAAY overkill.

@CyberFern0 Thanks. I already have a secondary sata ssd from an older computer and a 1tb hdd, which I wanted to use for storage.

Ok. I recommend a 750W PSU so you have overclocking or upgradability headroom for the future.
