PC Setup Advice/Tips

Phozzo

Hi all! I needed some advice on whether or not the current PC I have will be good for the following game at 144fps+ consistently. The game is Rainbow 6 Siege and I need to get the 144fps consistently due to my main monitor being 144hz since I play this game at a fairly high level competitively. My current setup is:

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 w/ stock cooler and not overclocked
Motherboard:  Asus Prime A320-K
GPU: Geforce GTX 1060 6GB (getting this weekend) currently have a XFX Rx 460 4gb twin fan
Ram: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8GB 2 x 4GB DDR4-2400 (Dual Channel)
Storage: Western Digital 1TB 7200 RPM (getting SSD this weekend as well)

Please give me advice on what to upgrade etc! Thank you!!

Ryzen probably won't do 144hz. It's not really that suited for high refresh...

I was told by multiple people who have Ryzen for Rainbow 6 Siege who are professionals that easily achieve 144fps with the same cpu but with a 1070. I am mainly worried about the RAM I have and the GPU I will be buying.

You failed to mention what resolution you are playing at. I'm going to assume it is 1080p.

Looking at some benchmarks from PC Gamer you will need at least an RX580 or higher to get to 144 FPS at just medium settings. And that's with an i7-8700k and 16GB of RAM. Your 1060 should get you over 100 fps though.

It looks like your Ryzen 5 will do just fine for this game. It appears to be more GPU bottlenecked rather than CPU. However, you might see some gains from overclocking.

So, 144 FPS? Not gonna happen with your hardware without some compromises. You'll have to drop the details, or, if you're willing, drop your resolution to 720p.

thank you for replying. I plan on playing on all low at 1080p. I want to get a 1070 which is what I might end up saving for!
