Sup guys

I was thinking of upgrading my Gpu from the GTX 750 I have now TO

2 4gb GTX 680's in SLI which will cost me about $280 to $300. Most if which will go into a new card as I can get one from a mate of mine for about $80. And was just wondering if there where any better alternatives out there I may have overlooked.

:^)

used GTX 780/780ti/Titan, GTX 970/980, R9 390/390X, GTX 1060, RX 470/480/570/580 R9 Fury/FuryX

Any of those GPU's are better than a pair of 680 in SLI

I wouldn't go with either, for 300 (actually $50 over 300) you can get a 1060 6gb, which would CRUSH both of those.

Don't 980's slightly out perform 1060's ? If so from my understandings 2 680's are equivalent to 980. But I only know what I've seen and can't say it for a fact

Just don't do SLI if you want the best value. Also a 680 is essentially the same thing as a 770, and has effectively the same power as (but worse driver compatibility then) a 960, so no you are not looking at much improvement. since a 690 is just two 680s on one board, this video should give you an idea of what to expect.

Not only is SLI pretty much guaranteed to bring to to Compatibility Hell (TM) it's also WAY more power, less game and driver support (unless it's the HL2 engine, for some reason)

Edit:  600 and 700 are also next on the chopping block to become Legacy, R.I.P. 400 and 500.

Its better than my 750 by a stretch and isn't super expensive that's all I need

Again, SLI offers terrible value. Just get the best single GPU you can buy. Linus has preached this numerous times. Unless you are going super high end or adding another GPU when you already have one, SLI is a waste of money. You asked for our opinions here, but it seems to me that you were going to go 680 sli regardless of our input.

It's two GPU dyes on a single pcb (effectively two 680s). Not to mention it is rare and usually overpriced. I only linked you the video to illustrate the poor price to performance of 680 sli.

The reason I made this post is to do exactly what you have said "to find the best single GPU I can buy"

I was only thinking of the 680 sli as a possibility being that I can already buy one for $80 I never had my heart set on sli

80$ is too steep for a 680. I would not pay more than 40$ maybe 50$ for one realistically.

I could probably talk it down to that but $80 was just a price throw out by the owner as an around that price not a dead set one Ive only said it was $80 being that its the only price mentioned
