Lenovo Thinkpad t61 Fails to post after cpu upgrade.

Person74

After doing a cpu upgrade of the Lenovo Thinkpad t61 from a core 2 duo T7300 to a Core 2 Duo t7800, my thinkpad has failed to post, the power Led's turn on, the fan spins for a second, and if there's a disk in the drive it will spin to, but the screen shows nothing and won't take any input. What should I do?

Have you reset the CMOS? Removing the battery for 30 seconds and putting it back in?

Off. For laptops, the unofficial way (that may or may not work) is to remove the power supply and battery, then hold the power button for 30 seconds or so.

You might have to have a moded BIOS in order for it to work. Laptops are finicky like that.

Intel® Core™ i7-12700 | GIGABYTE B660 AORUS MASTER DDR4 | Gigabyte Radeon™ RX 6650 XT Gaming OC | 32GB Corsair Vengeance® RGB Pro SL DDR4 | Samsung 990 Pro 1TB | WD Green 1.5TB | Windows 11 Pro | NZXT H510 Flow White

I Have a modded Bios, called Middletons Bios, its a rather popular custom bios for thinkpads.

Have tried swapping the old CPU back in to see if you have bricked the MOBO or other component when doing the swap.

Maybe try the stock BIOS for testing purposes.

You should be able to flash the BIOS manually from a USB. Most Machines have this feature.

Not machines of this age.

Put in the old CPU, flash the BIOS, then put the new CPU back in.

I'm not sure of the specifics for your specific machine. I had a quick look on lenovo's website but they are refusing to acknowledge the existence of that laptop model number.

I would only look into that as a last resort.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS?

yes. I doubt the motherboard fried itself during a cpu upgrade, worked fine the moments before i started the upgrade.

I should also note I installed an ssd, that means no OS to boot obviously, but I'm not getting the bios which has nothing to do with the drive.
