The past week has been absolute cancer, when i "ipconfig /all", it shows everything, even dns. I have tried disable ip6, and making a static ip.

So i go to maccas and download the latest drivers, that didnt work. I booted to ubuntu16.04 (because i had an iso downloaded) and i had no internet access. Then bought a USB to ethernet adaptor because it would have seperate drivers, that had the same results. I installed windows 7 32&64, win8 32&64, and 8.1 32&64, because i have no life. I have no internet in every single one of them even with the adapter.

BUT, all of my winxp and vista laptops have access via that ethernet cable. I have tried reseting my routre multiple times and i rang up my isp and they said it was my pc.

Please help.

What OS is currently installed on the system. Have you tried clean installing W10? You don't need to activate it, and it should automatically download the necessary drivers.

You can also go into the network and sharing center and grab some screenshots for us.

If it's the same result with the on board LAN as well as this USB Ethernet adapter you bought then the fault lies either with the cable or the device at the other end of it.

They claim that the ethernet cable works on other devices though.

Yes I did see that but I don't believe what users tell me until I've got my hands on it myself xD

You've tested this cable with a cable tester yes? @Bruce boy

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

  • Does your router have a filter set for IMAC Addresses?
  • Do you have admin rights to the router configuration?
  • Can you add another new device?
  • One test you could do is take the USB to Ethernet adapter and try it on the laptop using the same cable.
  • When you added the USB, did you try disabling the onboard Ethernet adapter?
  • Have you updated the Motherboards BIOS?
  • Check Event Viewer

It looks like you already installed windows 8.1 again.

However judging by your screenshot...

1. This is likely where you want to plug the Ethernet cable in. Right now it says it's unplugged.

2. If you are are plugging it in here... you are using a USB to Ethernet "dongle" ? These work but aren't reliable, make sure if you have it plugged in here, that you right click the local area connection 2 and choose "diagnose".

OR you can right click the connection and go to properties, then navigate down to the "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and select properties again. In this menu, make sure you have these radio buttons selected to pull DHCP from your router.

You can check these settings on both of your network adapters. 1. and 2. from the previous picture.
