After months of waiting I'm finaly ready for my very first self build gaming pc.

The budget would be +-1500 € (monitor not to be included).

Location being Europe -> parts can be bougth either from France or Germany ( primarely France where I study but don't bother too much I will compare prices myself before ordering)

The main focus is 1080p gaming ( demanding tripple A and heavily modded games) with basic productivity BUT above all upgradeabilty in the next 5 years (Finishing university soon).

I'm currently torn between AMD and Intel as Amd has assured future proof compatibility but lacks the raw power of intel concerning gaming performance. Basically I don't want to be stuck with buying a new motherboard or bottlenecking my cpu in let's say 4 years.

Light overclocking taken in consideration I'm fairly anxious concerning clearance of aircooler, oversized ram and motherboard parts. Thats one of the main reasons I come for help and advice.

For the gpu I'd say a 1070 or preferably a 1080 if it fits the budget.

If it's possible to make a micro atx build or medium case build I'd be into it (But same problem concerning clearance..)

Here is the partpicker list for guidance: https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/NT327W

Gimme advice master race!

That PSU is way overkill, drop it down to 550w and buy a 144Hz monitor. Also, buy a 2Tb HDD.

i5-8600k, MSI Z370-A Pro, 2x 8GB DDR4-3k, MSI Gaming X 1060, NZXT S340, 2TB HDD, 750w Corsair PSU, AOC 2775 OC'd to 80Hz and CFG73 at 144hz

Your PSU is same tier (tier 4) so you could go for that if you wanted to. Hybrid will do alright for mass storage and speed on frequently used stuff, SSD will be fast in general but low on capacity. If you can find a good tier 3 PSU for around the same price I'd go for that rather than the one I included.

Yeah you're right, just thought that I would probably do some more serious overclocking someday and I'd need it.

I have the same GPU, and it won't use that much power off an overclock. You have ~300w overkill at base speeds IIRC.

Yes, but for a 1070 his main bottleneck will be his monitor, and I'm assuming it will be 60Hz.

Out of curiosity, why a micro atx motherboard and 32gb of ram? Any upsides on that?

Hmm alright good to know about the hybrid. Thanks seems great, just about the case. Do you think there will be issues concerning heat intake?

You should be fine so long as your rad fans are on a vent and face into the computer. I'd add some exhaust fans too, doesnt matter how they look so long as they're big enough and run at a decent speed.

Quite right one this one, I decided to look for monitors after having a clear sight of the main build. Seems 144hz would be the way to go tho, any recommandations? (not too pricey tho)

Damn that's going way over my budget... Still got rent to pay after that

Rip. BTW I did a virtual benchmark comparing the raw specs of your original idea and my suggestion. All I'll say is take these with a pinch of salt, it's saying what the parts SHOULD perform like on average, not how they WILL perform. Ignore the british money stuff, I'm british so it does that. Only thing out of my idea I had to re factor was the RAM because they didn't list the brand I used for RAM in the dropdown, same capacity, type and speed though. Nothing in yours had to be refactored.

Out of curiosity, why a micro atx motherboard and 32gb of ram? Any upsides on that?

Just went for that because it was a good overclocking board within your budget. The upside on your ram is that you'll never need to upgrade your ram since the board will be maxed out and the ram's in dual channel mode which means better performance. Micro ATX board will leave you with a fair bit of room too in the ATX case.

Thx mate it's quite an upgrade! Guess it was the right move to finally stop lurking in these forums.

You're welcome! Only thing I've seen that's a little down is your desktop performance but that's probably down to single core performance, gaming uses multiple cores anyway so nothing much to worry about.

Yeah I guessed so, it will be a huge upgrade considering my 2012 laptop nonetheless. I'll take a night off to think it over, thanks again

Well I never, just noticed a boo boo I made on the benchmarks >.<. I used 4x8gb for your ram rather than 2x8gb! No worries I already got you another benchmark done, performance change in the original isn't that great anyway but here you go for accuracy's sake:

Those benchmarking sites are usually not a good way to compare hardware. Also why go for a R7 1800X when an R7 1700 will do the same thing ? Plus the refresh Ryzen cpu's are due out this month so do buy anything yet anyway if going for AMD.

With the new ones coming I thought the same thing... will depend on the pricing

Pau is meh.. Go w/ a be quiet pure power 10 600w for great price/performance quality. Also, for the same cpu price (250€) u can have a 8 core 12 thread ryzen 7 1700 processor.
