So guys for about the last month I have had issues with my computer going super slow on boot. And I mean super duper storm trooper slow! My system is as follows:

Spoiler

OS: windows 10 Pro 64 bit

cpu: i7-6700k

mobo: gigabyte z170 gaming 7

ram: 32gb G-skill ripjaws

GPU: gtx 1080FE

psu: Corsair cm1000i (1000watt)

cooler: Corsair h110i

bootdrive: 256gb Samsung 950pro (m.2)

2nd drive(games): 1tb Samsung 850evo

3rd drive (junk) : 1tb WD black

monitor: triple dell s2716dg

mouse: Logitech g403

keyboard: Corsair straife RGB

other: Corsair colander pro, Corsair rgb strips, blue yeti mic, Logitech webcam, Bose companion 20 speakers, Bose qc35 headphones.

on boot my mouse completely freezes and my cpu and memory usage shot upto around 80-100%. This can last for as long as 5 minuets.

the only major chang I can think of is shortly before I started experiencing this issue I went from 1 dell s2716dg monitor to 3. I doubt that is the issue.

below is a picture of my startup programs.

I'd suggest three things:

1. Turn off everything in the startup menu that you don't use every single time you use your computer. With an NVMe drive like yours you won't exactly need to wait around for the programs to start when you want them to.

2. Clean up system files using the disk cleaner and defragment tools within windows.

3. Turn off all the antivirus and antispyware stuff you have besides windows defender to see if that makes a difference. A lot of AV programs love to hog system resources un-necessarily and will run full scans on the system maxing out things like storage drives, CPU and RAM.

Did you install anything the past month? I've kept my task manager startup time to under six seconds.

I use webroot in place of security essentials or whatever they are calling windows defender now. It uses less resources the windows security suite and is smarter about when it dose stuff. For instance it wont run a scan when you are playing a steam game.

Okay, when your computer boots go to details and see what's eating up your CPU. I had a similar case back then where the computer's Antivirus was acting up and ended with me needing to do a reset.

Tried that, largest process is google chrome at just under 1GB. Nothing that would explain the 20-30GB of memory usage. As for Anti-Virus I can guarantee its not the antivirus or graphics card drivers, as those are the first things I checked due to their.... habit of causing issues. even now when my computer has been up and running for hours its using around 15GB of memory and the largest process listed in task manager is chrome at just less than 3GB (which is still a lot for a web browser but whatever).

As far as I can tell I have to assume the problem has something to do with windows explorer or the mouse. as the problem sometimes occurs on a smaller scale from time to time when opening up a new program. Also sometimes the mouse lags out and has issues even if the cup and ram are not near 100%
