I would go for 16GB of RAM if possible, or at the very least a dual stick (2x4GB) kit for Dual-Channel since that can help performance.

Also, Ryzen 2 is just around the corner if you can wait a month.

You might want faster RAM, otherwise it’s a good build. You can buy the OS off of something like Kinguin for a lot less money.

would all of these specs work in this case? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119324&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

What are u planning to use the pc for?

I recommend waiting for new ryzen cpus they should be out in like two weeks or so.

You can buy a oem windows 10 pro from kinguin for like 30 and put saved money into ram (2x8 GB 3000/3200mhz recommended)

gaming and homework

Yep, it would and that case looks good. Buy some LED’s to light up your creation. Also, Ryzen 2 series are on their way so you could wait a tad longer and get something really nice.

will a ryzen 2 be able to go into the build i listed? could i simply upgrade the processor or would i need a new motherboard

Yeah I was going to say I would get an Nvidia 1070 if this is for gaming.

For gaming and "homework", (I don't know if that's just office, or if it includes 3D modelling), assuming office, the 8400 will perform better than the 1700. The cost difference also helps make up the difference in the GPU price.

:)

Size wise ?

Generally speaking Nvidia Cards are smaller than AMD because they use less power and generate less heat so their cooling doesn't need to be as big.

Which 8400 would you recommend?

Yea ... totally agree with seon. Exchange your cpu / mb for i5-8400 / asrock h370 pro4 ... I think that it will outperform the 1700 and save you some money for better graphics card (like 1070 or 1070 ti). You do not have to buy cooler as the 8400 comes with one. But if you want ... dump that liquid cooling and go for something like cryorig h7 or 212 evo.

My concern, having done the same myself is you're putting a mini atx in a normal sized case. Not sure if this is intentional since you can find mid atx mobos for that price as well, but depending on the length of your fan cords you might have trouble plugging your fans in because the mobo is tucked into the opposite corner from the front case fans. I had the same issue, though I have a full tower and a mini atx mobo from a different build that I put in the nicer full atx case

Insanity is not the absence of sanity, but the willingness to ignore it for a purpose. Chaos is the result of this choice. I relish in both.

mini atx? i dont have a mini atx componenet in this build. my mother board says micro atx on it. I went back and looked the only mini itx i have in my build is the case, which it does both mini itx and micro atx

so i switched the parts you said besides the cooling, and That only saves me like $100. i still like the 8 core processor amd has

Socketwise: pretty much every GPU either AMD or Nvidia made within the last 10 years uses the PCI-E 16x slot which is standard on probably 99% of all motherboards. So no worries there

Performance wise, a 1070 is a good fit for the price point your at. There wont be any bottlenecks and it will game really, really well on anything you throw at it. especially if you game in 1080p. Any of the Nvidia flagship cards, 1060, 1070, 1080 will game well due to good tech design and really good drivers / partnerships with game manufacturers.
