So I just built a new system, with a used power supply and motherboard. Three LED's flashes for a split second when I try to turn it on, CPU_LED, VGA_LED, and DRAM_LED. My case fans, cpu cooler fan, gpu fan and power supply fan also spins for like a split second. I've tried alot of things to solve this, but nothing has happened.

What I thought now, was that maybe the power supply was broken or something. When I unplugged every single cable from it excluding the 24-pin and the 8-pin and then turned the PC on, the fans actually spinned for a longer period of time. Not by much, but still. It seems to be that the system doesn't get a sufficient amount of power delived to it from the PSU.  Thoughts on this? Could it be the motherboard instead?

I personally don't enjoy 9-string guitars, but that doesn't change the fact that they look awesome as hell!

Should the PSU be capable of delivering enough power? What have you tried?

It is a 650W Fractal Design Newton R2 I think.

What I have done to try and solve this, is to:

1. I've ensured that the 24 pin and 8 pin cables are seated correctly into the motherboard.

2. I've ensured that the memory is seated correctly into the slots, and I've also removed them and put them on again.

3. Even though I have four sticks of ram, I changed the order of them.

4. I've tried to turn the system on with only one stick of ram, in the slot furthest away from the CPU.

5. I've reinstalled my graphics card.

6. Made sure that the two 6-pin power cords are seated correctly into the GPU.

7. I've pressed the CLR CMOS button on the back of the motherboard, where the I/O stuff is, a countless times.

8. The motherboard manual told me to erase the RTC RAM, so I did that, by moving a jumper cap from two pins to another on the motherboard. The manual told me that you then clear the CMOS memory of date, time, esc.

9. I've made sure that the CPU cooler fan is plugged into CPU_FAN.

10. I made sure that there aren't any thermal paste where it shouldn't be.

11. Tried to turn it on outside of the case, with everything essential plugged in,

I have not done the following:

1. Re-installed the CPU.

2. Looked and seen if there are any bent pins.

3. Removed the CMOS battery.

4. Checked if the RAM is compatible with the motherboard. However, I bought them together used, so they should work.

Hmmm, did you buy all these components used? Do you have a spare GPU you can pop in there to see if the GPU is the problem?

Yes, I bought all of those components used. I had to save money if I wanted a setup like that. Unfortunaly, I do not have a spare GPU, and I don't have a friend or relative that has one either.

ok before we decide that the psu is bad try it in other computer

and from my experience i bought 2years ago hd 6990 and it was bad i thought it was my psu not being able to deliver enough power so i bought a new psu it's was 1200W corsair and it still didn't work then i tried my gpu in other computer and it didn't work so for now i think some of you components

so try every part of you computer on other computer this is usually how i work

UPDATE! I tried connecting the system to my monitor, and when I turned it on, the fans were actuall spinning for a few seconds! It later died though. Nothing happened on my screen, and the same leds where blinking. I haven't been able to do it again though, not even turning on a bit. When I press the power button, nothing happens, and pressing the CLR CMOS button doesn't do anything. Please help :(

for now every part of your build is a suspect and i think it's your psu

I think it's the motherborad or graphics card. It sounds like a problem with one of those two :)

Well, I don't know if it's the GPU. In the past, when the fans used to spin up for a split second when I turned it on, the same thing happened whether I had the GPU installed or not. I think it's the PSU or motherboard. What's really strange is that I can't get it to do anything right now. The power and reset button on my motherboard is on, but nothing at all happens when I press them. When I press the CLR CMOS button, nothing happens. It's always green, and in the past, when I pressed it, the led turned off and then came back after a second. Now, it's always on, and nothing happens.

I have also tried to clear the CMOS by moving the jumper cap from pin 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3, and then back. Nothing at all. I guess I could try to remove the battery, but I haven't been able to successfully do that yet.

A system won't post without some kind af graphics card in! So it still could be it unless you have tried with another. :) Does the system say beep or something?

Bridge your psu and See if it spins. If it dies after some seconds, then we have a much clearer view on who the suspect is.

Oh yes thank you I will. I'll have to wait until tomorrow though, got places to go to.

UPDATE! I bridged my PSU, and it didn't react. I tried it multiple times. I made sure I did it with th right wires. Nothing happens. When I have it plugged into my motherboard, the standby lights are on, but nothing at all happens when I try to start it.

The PSU is the faulty component. It's what's causing my PC to not turn on. I bought it used, but it was quite a lot of weeks ago, so I don't know if I'll get my money back. If I don't, it's not a huge deal. I only got it for 250 SEK, about 40$. I'll have to email the seller, and we'll see what happens.

I'm gonna test it further to make sure.
