Is TRIM automated?

I'm new to this SSD malarky, and I have changed Sata to AHCI, I think that enables trim? but is there no SSD alternative to defrag? I just delete stuff when it's not needed and that's that?

 

(sorry if it sounds noob)

Trim effectivly goes over all recently removed files/un-used clusters and does a 0/1/0 wipe on them.

 

You can check if its running by opening a command prompt as admin and typing in:

'fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify'

If the result is '0' TRIM is enabled.

Trim is automatically enabled if you were in AHCI mode when you installed windows on your ssd.  Otherwise, you'll have to enable it manually.

 

fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0

You generally want defrag disabled on an ssd because it wastes write cycles.

yeah that is the first thing I done as soon as i booted comp up
